-     - 7,000 legal documents are now available to support legal research and knowledge

Cairo – 11 May 2025

The Memory and Knowledge Center for Studies announced the launch of the first phase of the "Indexing and Giving Access to Legal Documents" project, on Sunday, which aims to convert Egyptian legal documents into a digital format that can be sought and copied, thus contributing to facilitating access to researchers, lawyers, and journalists of legal information accurately and easily.

The first phase of the project includes making available  about 7,000 legal documents, including Supreme Court rulings (constitutional, supreme administrative, and cassation), in addition to laws and legislation issued by legislative and executive authorities, official decisions covering the period from 1990 to 2000, as well as the latest laws and amendments issued in 2023 and 2024.

The project comes in response to an urgent need by researchers and journalists, as a result of the absence of a unified digital database, and their forced reliance on scattered or non-searchable text sources. The project provides an open and easy-to-use legal platform that provides instant access to legal documents, enhancing opportunities for the development of legal research and analysis of the evolution of the justice system in Egypt.

This project is particularly important in view of the growing need to enhance the public availability of legal information, as one of the fundamental pillars of the rule of law. Free access to legal documents contributes to expanding public knowledge of rights and duties, supports the independence of scientific research, and provides civil society and media professionals with reliable tools to analyze the performance of justice institutions, thus enhancing society's understanding of the system of fundamental rights and freedoms.

The project features a completely free accessibility, where any user can access the documents without requiring registration or subscription. The platform also provides direct text search within documents, and clear classifications covering key areas such as civil and political rights, economic and social rights, and the state and system of governance.

Researchers and academics can rely on the platform as a credible source of support for legal studies, which provides journalists with a practical tool to access legal texts related to journalistic investigations, and lawyers and legal practitioners a comprehensive reference for provisions and legislation that supports their work and legal analysis.

The project marks the beginning of the efforts of the Memory and Knowledge Center for Studies towards building the largest open and integrated legal database to support legal knowledge and enhance public access to information in Egypt.
